Pupils are provided with a clear and simple
introduction. A 3-step walkthrough process lets
them send an email.

Pupils will have a more advanced email facility
when they reach KS2.

Pupils can choose from a selection of pre-set
backgrounds and upload or draw their own me-icon
image.

My Work area
Pupils can upload their own files or create files
using the DB Primary tools. Files can be shared
with the rest of the class once they have been
moderated by the teacher.

  • In the My Work area, pupils can
  • use the painting tool to draw a picture
  • Record a video from an attached webcam
  • Take a photo from an attached camera
  • Record their voice
  • These tools are also available to use in the
    forum area and within email.
  • These tools let every pupil contribute to the
    platform, whatever their age or ability.

Blog
Each pupil has their own blog which can be
updated with words, pictures, sound and
video. Teachers can set tasks to get pupils to
update their blog.

Each account comes with a calendar. This will
show events the pupil enters as well as events
from communities they are a member of.

View your class activity and access platform
tools directly from your homepage.

The My Class Tile
Clicking on the three dots at the bottom right
corner will let you manage whole class tasks such
as sending an email to all pupils or creating a
task for your class.
From this tile you can manage your class and
visit pupil homepages.

Here you can view who has been logging on and for
how long your pupils activities on the
platform as well as any files or posts that are
awaiting moderation.

The Noticeboard Tile
Management and Office staff in particular may
find the Noticeboard a useful device for keeping
staff up-to-date with events happening at school.

Up to 6 tiles may be added on each page. You may
add tiles on up to 3 pages.

subscribing to the community whats on feed.
See at a glance what emails you have received.
Enable the calendar tile to see what events are

My Files
Use the My Files area to store all your planning,
photos and other files. You can use folders to
sort your files into appropriate areas.
There is unlimited storage in the My Files area.

Here you can access information pages, videos and
PowerPoints about various aspects of the platform.

Areas of learning The communities
What are communities used for?
A community on DB Primary is a place where pupils
will be able to learn, collaborate and share
information. You can create your own
communities, such as a class community or
download ready-made topic communities from the
learning library. A staffroom community will be
somewhere you can communicate and share best
practice and documentation.

Community tools
  • The following tools are available to use within
    communities
  • Gallery for sharing files and pictures
  • Calendar share event times and dates, for
    example pupil birthdays
  • Forum for initiating learning discussions
  • Blog To publicise examples of good work,
    achievement or as a tool for pupils to update and
    share their writing with a wider audience
  • Quizzes- Create your own quizzes or download
    ready-made ones.
  • Surveys
  • Tasks for setting homework or class work.

Gallery
Upload your own files
Creating New Files
If you select New you will be able to create a
file using one of the in-built DB Primary tools.
The New and Upload buttons are only available to
leaders of the community (usually, this means
teachers). If children wish to share work here,
they must publish from their homepage and have
their submission approved by the teacher before
it appears.
Selecting the upload button will let you browse
your computer or server for any files you wish to
upload and share.

Forum
  • What is a forum?
  • A forum is a discussion area where users can post
    discussions and read and respond to posts by
    other forum members.
  • Forums in DB Primary
  • You could use forums within your class, staff or
    governor communities.
  • Children can visit a forum and comment on topics
    using text, pictures, audio or video.
  • Children who have the Improver (KS2) theme on
    their accounts are also able to start their own
    forum topics.

Blog
What is a blog? A blog is a collaborative area
on which an individual or group of users record
opinions, information, etc. on a regular basis.
Blogs in DB Primary
  • As well as the blog on personal homepages, both
    you or your pupils can also create blogs within
    your communities. These can be used to keep
    pupils, staff and the wider school community up-
    to-date what is happening in your classroom and
    at school.

In this example pupils have update the blog to
share their activities with a wider audience.

Keep children up-to-date with new topics, or any
achievements or events that are happening.

Survey
A survey can be set by community leaders.
Community leaders will usually be teachers,
although you have the option to make pupils
leaders too.

Task
  • A task can be used to set homework or to set an
    activity for your pupils to complete in in the
    class.
  • When you set a task, a child will be notified the
    next time the log on that they have something to
    do.

You can set a task that ties into a tool within
DB Primary. For example, you could get the pupils
to update their blog, record a video or simply
access a link or a word document.

Once parents have their own accounts you can link
them to their children. The advantages of
including parents in the platform include
  • Parents can play an active role in their childs
    learning
  • School information can be easily communicated
  • Forums can be used for discussion, queries
    feedback
  • Events can be displayed in the calendar
  • You have the option to let parents view their
    childrens emails
