    on a part of the environment.
  • If you didnt see it, smell it, taste it, touch
    it or hear it, then there was no observation!
  • Instruments Man made devices to enhance or
    extend ones senses.
  • Ex rulers, scales, microscopes, telescopes.

  • Inference An interpretation of one or more
    observations.
  • An inference is an educated guess based on
    observations that you have made.
  • INFERENCES CAN BE WRONG!!!!

  • Classification The grouping together of similar
    objects, or properties, to make a study more
    meaningful.
  • You can group things together by similar size,
    shape, and color, etc.

  • Measurement A way of expressing an observation
    with greater accuracy.
  • When we measure something, we assign a numerical
    value to that object or event.
  • Length The distance between 2 points.
  • Mass The amount of MATTER in an object.
  • Matter Anything that has mass and occupies
    space.
  • Volume The amount of space an object takes up.
