Title: Areas of Triangles Trapezoids, Rhombuses, and Kites

1
Areas of Triangles Trapezoids, Rhombuses, and
Kites

Derive formulas for the areas of triangles,
trapezoids and kitesApply area formula to solve
problemsDevelop cooperative behavior
Objectives
3
Area of a TriangleThe area of a triangle is
half the product of a base and the corresponding
height.
A 1/2 bh
4
The base of a triangle is any of its sides. The
corresponding height is the length of the
altitude to the line containing that base.
5
Find the area.
6
Trapezoids Recall that the bases of a trapezoid
are the parallel sides and the legs are the
nonparallel sides. The height of a trapezoid is
the perpendicular distance h between the bases.
7
Area of a Trapezoid The area of a trapezoid is
half the product of the height and the sum of the
bases.
A 1/2 h (b1 b2)
8
Find the area of each figure. Leave it in
simplest radical form.
9
Find the area of each figure. Leave it in
simplest radical form.
10
Area of a Rhombus or Kite The area of a rhombus
or a kite is half the product of the lengths of
its diagonals .
