Title: Hormone Regulation of Kidneys

1
Hormone Regulation of Kidneys
  • Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH)
  • Enhances fluid retention by increasing water
permeability in distal tubules and collecting
    duct
  • Made in hypothalamus and stored in the pituitary
    gland
  • Renin-angiontensin-aldosterone system (RAAS)
  • Tissue near blood supply for glomerulus responds
to decreasing blood pressure by releasing renin
    into blood
  • Angiotensis becomes angiotensin II with the aide
    of renin
  • Angiotensin II stimulates the release of
    aldostersone

2
ADH Regulation
3
RAAS Regulation
4
Explain why the ADH and RAAS regulation are not
considered redundant.
5
Hormone Regulation of Kidneys
  • Atrial natriuretic factor (ANF)
  • Hormone released from walls of atria that lowers
    blood volume and pressure
  • Works as checks and balances with ADF and RAAS
  • Still undergoing research

6
The Amazing Kidney!
  • The vampire bat is an example of how kidney
    regulation allows organisms to survive!
