Day and Night

• At first people used the sun and the moon to tell
  time - day and night.

Sundials

• Sundials were used to tell time by early man.
  Sundials use the shadow made by a stick to show
  the time.

Hourglass

• The hourglass was also used by early man. The
  hourglass is just like one of our egg timers or
  game timers. Sand falls from a top glass ball to
  a bottom glass ball in a certain amount of time
  such as a minute or an hour.

Mechanical Clock

• The mechanical clock was made using gears and
  wheels to work. They did not keep very good
  time.

Digital Clock

• The digital clock of today was invented in 1956.
  It uses a quartz crystal and a battery to work.
  It is very accurate.
