WHAT IS ECOLOGY?

• THE STUDY OF THE RELATIONSHIP OF ORGANISMS TO
  THEIR PHYSICAL(NONLIVING) AND BIOLOGICAL(LIVING)
  ENVIRONMENT.

The Living Environment

• Biosphere portion of the earth that supports
  life
• Biotic factors- living organisms that inhabit the
  environment
• Plants and animals

The Nonliving Environment

• Abiotic factors nonliving parts of the
  environment.
• Examples air currents, temperature
• Moisture, light, soil and fire.
• Has an effect on living things

Levels of Organization

• Population- group of one species living in the
  same place at the same time. Example deer
  ,cardinals, wolves

• Community a collection of interacting
  populations. Example fish and corals and other
  species of organisms.

Ecosystem- include interactions among the
populations in a community and the communities
abiotic surroundings

• WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HABITAT NICHE?

Niche

• Role of species in the community.
• Its job.
• It also includes how a species uses and affects
  its environment
• Many organisms may occupy the same habitat, but
  have different niches.

• Place where an organism lives out its life.
• Its address. Home.
