  • The Chinese developed one of the oldest
    continuous civilizations in world history.
  • China was cut off from the rest of the world due
    to their geography
  • East Pacific Ocean
  • South Rainforest in Southeast Asia
  • West Himalaya Mountains
  • North Gobi Desert ? this is how most people
    came to China.
  • The early Chinese learned to fight floods and
    build canals.

Chinas History
  • China was ruled by powerful families called
    dynasties. The head of the dynasty was called the
    emperor.
  • China has a history of invasions. In 215 B.C.,
    the Great Wall was built (1500 miles) for
    protection, but did not work.
  • The Mongols overran large parts of Asia and
    Russia. Their leader was Genghis Khan. His
    grandson, Kublai Khan, completed the conquest of
    China.
  • Marco Polo lived in China from 1275 to 1295. He
    reported to Europe the many inventions he found
    there such as

Indias History
  • This civilization is as old as China. Most people
    follow the Hindu religion1000 years later,
    Buddhism started.
  • In 327 B.C., India was conquered by Alexander the
    Great of Greece.
  • Mathematicians invented the zero and the decimal
    point. The Arabs got the idea for numerals from
    the Indians.
  • They found a way to make iron rust proof.
  • Vasco da Gama Portuguese established a colony
    in India. The British, Dutch, and the French also
    established trading posts and colonies in the
    region.
