The American Presidency
  • Richard Milhous Nixon was born on January 9, 1913
    in Yorba Linda, California.
  • Nixon had a brilliant record at Whittier College
    and Duke University Law School before beginning
    the practice of law.
  • He was elected to Congress from Californias
    Republican Party in 1946 and to the Senate in
    1950.
  • He served as vice president to Dwight D.
    Eisenhower from 1953 to 1961.
  • He lost the 1960 presidential election against
    John F. Kennedy in 1960.
  • He lost the 1962 California gubernatorial
    election against Pat Brown.
  • He was elected president in 1968 and 1972.
  • Richard Nixon died in New York in 1994 and is
    buried in his birthplace in Yorba Linda,

  • The committee had no real power, so Nixon asked
    Congress to create an official agency.
  • The Environmental Protection Agency was
    officially created in 1972.

    his environment.
  • To promote efforts which will prevent or
    eliminate damage to the environment and biosphere
