Title: How can I Write an Effective CONCLUSION?

1
How can I Write an Effective CONCLUSION?
  • You should have two (2) versions of your
    teacher-approved thesis statement (previous
    lesson).
  • The topic sentence restate/reword your thesis or
    focus statement. In conclusion,
  • Your body paragraph sentences need to summarize
the main points/reasons for your position and
remind your reader to recall the main points of
    your position.

2
  • 5. Finally, write a personal comment or call for
action. Try one of the following approaches for
    your final thoughts
  • With a simile/metaphor comparison Suggest that
your position is like something positive.
  • (Example Homework is like placing puzzle pieces
together. In the end, everything fits to create
an incredible picture. OR Homework is the
vitamin that helps keep students healthy.)
  • With a Question Closing with a question lets
your readers make their own predictions, draw
    their own conclusions.
  • (Example Is homework really hurting us or
helping us prepare for the real world?)
  • With Recommendation A recommendation closing is
one that stresses the actions or remedies that
    should be taken.
  • (Example If students spend time working with
concepts when they learn them, then they spend
less time trying to catch up. Homework practice
    helps students succeed.)
  • With a Quotation Since a quotation may
summarize, predict, question, or call for action,
you may use a quotation within a conclusion for
    nearly any kind of paper.
  • (Example Benjamin Franklin once said, "By
failing to prepare you are preparing to fail.)
