Are your Air Filters costing you MONEY?
Most salons would have to answer YES. If your
salon stays hot, if you AC runs most of the day,
if your system freezes up, if there is dust
everywhere, then you need to change your filters.
Most filters you buy from the local hardware or
one of the big box stores are doing little to
help you keep you salon air clean and are
actually costing you money. This presentation
will explain how our filters are different and
show you why you should consider using the
OakleyAir Systems Filter in your hair or tanning

Most businesses and homes use a fiberglass filter
purchased at a local hardware or retail store.
The American Lung Association of the Upper
Midwest Health House states Panel filters,
usually 1" fiberglass filters, are the typical
furnace filters installed in the ductwork of most
home heating and/or air conditioning systems.
These filters do little to remove contaminants
from the air. The primary function of these
filters is to protect the fan and minimize the
amount of dust on the heating and cooling coil.
They go on to say
The dust in your home is made up of pollen,
plant and mold spores, pet dander, lint, bacteria
and other contaminants. Regular daily activities
within the home such as dusting, vacuuming and
cooking can increase particulate concentrations.
These particles, measured in microns, range in
size from fairly large to microscopic. To better
understand the size of a micron, note that a
human hair is about 70 microns in diameter. The
tiniest particles make up 99 of debris in the
air circulating within your home. These can
bypass the respiratory systems defense
mechanismssuch as the nose, sinuses and
windpipethat are designed to filter out
particles 3-5 microns in size and keep them from
becoming lodged in our lungs. Health effects from
breathing these particles can range from
irritation of the eyes and/or respiratory tissues
to more serious effects, such as de-creased lung
function and cancer. They can also cause allergic
reactions and infectious diseases. One way to
help lower the particle count in your home is to
use better air filters and change or clean them
regularly. We at OakleyAir Systems have put

Issue 1- Capturing the harmful particles that
make up your air. How is the OakleyAir Filter
System Different? 1. Our filters allow the A/C
fan to run more freely, that is there is less
resistance and better air flow. This allows more
of the contaminants to actually enter the
filter. 2. We have a depth loading filter that
actually captures these contaminants without
starving the A/C of its air flow which is one of
the biggest problems in tanning salons. The
filter media is actually a graduated density
material. This means that the larger particles
are captured all along the front half of the
filter while the smaller particles are captured
at the back of the filter. See the figure to the
right for a visual representation. This allows
the filter to trap up to 95 of pollen, lint,
mold spores, dust, and hair that enters the
filter while allowing the A/C fan to run at full
flow. No other filter does this.

Issue 2- What do we do with the contaminants
that are captured? How is OakleyAir systems
different? Other filters capture some of the
contaminants but what happens with them? The
answer is nothing. The contaminants grow and
spread on the face of their filters. Because
90-95 of the air is continually
recirculated within the facility, this can cause
some real health issues for you and your workers.
While we capture 95 of these contaminants- our
filters are also equipped with a tackifier that
holds onto the contaminants and eliminates their
harmful effects. The contaminants instead of
growing or multiplying are killed or rendered
harmless. This is because our filters are
equipped with an anti-microbial treatment that
has been used in hospital filters for more than
20 years that kills bacteria, mold, mildew, and
other harmful spores.

• Issue 3- Most filters allow the air and
  contaminants to bypass the media.
• Most filters are equipped with a cardboard or
  plastic frame. This allows a significant amount
  of air to go unfiltered. In fact cardboard edge
  filters allow 20 of the air to go unfiltered.
  Dirty air bypass is one of the leading causes of
  coil fouling which can cause your system to
  freeze up and prematurely burn out. Unfiltered
  air bypass results in no protection from
  biological agents and microbial contaminants
  which are important in today's environment.
• How is OakleyAir Systems Filters different?
• Bypass Elimination- The OakleyAir filter system
  eliminates the risk of unfiltered air bypass
  around the filter and the filter rack. We utilize
  a selvedge edge to provide self-gasketing which
  forces 100 of the air to pass through our
  superior filter media.

Issue 4 How do I know when to change my
filter? Most filters have never been tested to
determine when they should be changed. Some claim
to have an extended filter life but in reality,
all that is happening is that the fan is being
starved even more. How is OakleyAir Systems
Filters different? We have tested our filters
under the most stringent of conditions. The
OakleyAir Filter System manages the dirt by
utilizing depth loading which allows our filters
to outperform pleated filters. The graph at the
bottom shows the results from a laboratory test
for filter life. The results can be easily seen
our filters out live a high capacity pleated
filter by 75, which is nearly twice the service
life and last a solid 3 months. There is
dramatic savings in the extended service life
reduced filters to buy, shipping/storage cost,
labor cost, disposal cost and more.

Issue 5 How The OakleyAir Filter System Saves
You Money -
A typical A/C system has three motors associated
with each system. The motors are for the outside
unit blower, the outside unit compressor, and the
inside unit air handling blower. The combined
energy usage of these components averages
approximately 200 kWh with a standard pleated
filter that you can get from any hardware store.
This usage is based on a pleated filter that has
an initial differential pressure of 0.5 INWC
(inches water column) when the filter is clean
and 1.0 INWC when the filter is dirty. If you
install a filter that cleans just as well as the
pleated filter but has one half of the
differential pressure like our filters do, then
the savings would be calculated as follows

A/C Based on the statistics above, using the
OakleyAir Filter System will save you
approximately 7.50 per ton of A/C. The typical
tanning salon has 10 tons of A/C so the savings
would be 75.00 per month or 900.00 per year.
These numbers are very conservative as most
salons are paying more per kWh due to having a 3
phase system versus a standard single phase in
most homes and businesses. To calculate the
savings for your salon, look at your statement
and insert your kWh rate and do the math.

Issue 6- With all these benefits- the

How is OakleyAir Systems Filters different?

• The OakleyAir Filter System is the only
  air filter that will allow your Air Conditioner
  or Furnace to operate at 100 efficiency.
  Remember slide 4 where we talk about reduced air
  resistance? This is the characteristic that
  allows youre A/C to run more freely. This
  results in more air flow and less run time to
  satisfy the temperature requirement and allows a
  higher air flow velocity which results in more
  contaminants actually passing through the
  filters. A practical example of this is you
  trying to breath thru a straw. You can only get
  so much air and you work harder to breath. This
  is exactly what happens to your system with the
  pleated or clogged filters. With pleated
  filters, when you go to install them, if the
  system is on, they will suck out of your hand.
  This is not good and demonstrates the flow loss
  we are demonstrating. A whistling noise around
  your filter is also a sign of this problem and
  bypass as well. This causes your system to work
  longer and harder and can lead to your system
  freezing up due to lack of air circulation. Most
  important, it causes the system to run longer
  which increases your electric bill costing you
  MONEY!

Issue 7- I always forget to change my filters.
From the previous slides, it should be
apparent that proper filter maintenance is
important in many ways. How can OakleyAir

your filter sizes, date of last filter
