23
Important Information!
  • Community college students are now limited to at
most 3 enrollments in a given course.  A grade of
W will count as an enrollment, so the last day
for students to withdraw from a class without a
    grade of W is 9/14.

24
Important information!!!
  • Students who drop classes from to will have a W
    recorded on their permanent record
  • I will not exclude you after Census so be sure
to officially drop if you need to.

25
Attendance and punctuality!
  • A student with 2 or more consecutive absences
will be dropped from the class. After 9/14, it
is the students responsibility to officially
drop the class. Failure to do so may result in
an F grade for the course. Any student who does
not take the first exam on 9/17 will be dropped
    from the class.

Placemat Consensus
  • STEPS
  • Each team draws a placemat on a poster paper
  • Topic Norms for our class
  • Teammates all respond simultaneously in their
individual space (each person uses a different
    color)
  • Teammate 1 announces 1 item he/she has written
  • Teammates discuss the item
  • If there is consensus that the item is important,
Teammate 1 records his/her best synthesis of the
teams ideas in the center team space, seeking
    help with wording if necessary
  • The process is repeated using RoundRobin each
teammate, in turn, suggests an idea and records
    the team consensus

36
A few ideas to consider when writing class norms
When students shout out answers in math class,
the teacher should _______________________________
____ When a student walks in late, the teacher
should ________________________________ When
several students have conversations during class,
the teacher should _______________________________
__________ When working in groups, team members
should __________________________________________
What I think about texting or using a cell phone
to surf the internet during class is
______________________________________________
37
We will finish the placemat activity next class!
38

  • Why are math skills important in our country
    today?
