Introduction
  • The six-week program in Coimbatore, India
  • Students live at the guest house at Karunya
    University and work in the city of Coimbatore
  • Designed to allow students direct exposure to the
    culture and working environment of India and
    first-hand international business experience
  • Unpaid practicum and academic coursework for 3
    credits (Mgt. 4640)
  • Students work on a variety of projects according
    to the specific needs of the company to which
    they have been assigned.

  • Coimbatore is the second largest city and one of
    the most industrialized cities in the southern
    state of Tamil Nadu. Situated on the banks of
    the river Noyyal, it is known as the textile
    capital of South India.

Coimbatore is situated at the foot hills of
Nilgiris mountains and has as a pleasant
temperate climate.

  • The work-study group is tentatively scheduled to

  • ADDITIONAL REQUIRMENTS
  • Students are responsible for ensuring they have
    the required immunizations for travel to India.
  • Students passports must be valid for at least
    six months following their scheduled return date.
  • Students also are required to obtain a visa so
    passports must be obtained immediately upon
    acceptance into the program (i.e. must submit
    passport application in person rather than by
    mail).

  • People of Coimbatore always enjoy the best
    climate in South India. The temperature of the
    Coimbatore City varies between 39 Degree Celsius
    in summer to 15 Degree Celsius in winter months.
    Most of the time there is a mild breeze flowing
    through the Palghat gap from Kerala.

Languages
  • The main language is Hindi which is spoken by
    about 40 of the population
  • English is also enshrined in the constitution
    for a wide range of official purposes.
  • 17 regional languages are recognized by the
    constitution.
  • These include Bengali, Gujarati, Oriya and
    Punjabi, which are widely used in the north
  • Tamil and Telugu, which are common in the south.
  • Other regional languages include Kannada,
    Malayalam and Marathi. The Muslim population
    largely speaks Urdu.

  • Curries are created from the subtle and delicate
    blending of spices such as cumin, turmeric,
    cardamom, ginger, coriander, nutmeg and poppy
    seed although these vary from region to region.
    Vegetable dishes are more common than in Europe,
    particularly in southern India.

    syrup).
