What is ACSW?
  • ACSW Program Started in 1994
  • Lightweight, Crew Portable
  • Weapon System
  • 25mm Family of Ammunition
  • 250 SPM
  • Full Ballistic Solution
  • Programmable Ammunition
  • with Muzzle Velocity Correction
  • TA/FCS Laser Range Finder
  • Target Tracking

5
ACSW FamilyXM307, XM307K50 (XM312)
  • .50 cal variant of the ACSW
  • Part interchangeability with XM307, only 5 parts
    are different
  • First demonstrated January 7, 2003
  • Performance physical characteristics exceed
    other crew-type .50 cal weapons
  • Development of XM307K50 (XM312) will accelerate
    ACSW maturity
  • Fires standard .50 cal ammunition with M15A2 links

6
Convertible
  • 5 piece conversion kit
  • Cartridge guide

Driving towards Low Rate Initial Production
14
ACSW SDD Exit Criteria
  • Lightweight Threshold
  • Weapon Weight 35.0 lbs
  • (no ammunition, no dual feed adaptor (dual
    feeder in development))
  • Lethality
  • System Dispersion 1.1 x 1.1 mils
  • Armor Penetration 2 RHA _at_ 1,000 m
  • (at 0 degrees obliquity)
  • Air Burst Point Accuracy 1.5 m standard
    deviation,
  • (known range, 600m) /- 3 m mean

Unit of ActionCommon Close Support Weapons
Potential UA Applications
- XM307 Primary Armament - XM307
Secondary Armament
16
Recovery from Disabled Vehicle
  • Lightweight capability enables the gunner to
remove the weapons system from the destroyed
vehicle, thus maintaining the combat power of the
    convoy

17
Dismounted Overwatch
  • The dismounted ACSW provides additional security
via a wider and better field of view than vehicle
    mounted
  • Employment in the 2nd floor is less time
consuming and requires less physical effort than
    dismounting the MK19 or M2
  • Movement from primary to secondary positions is
significantly quicker than with the M2 or MK19
    because of the weight
  • ACSW tripod does not require sandbags because of
    low recoil

18
Action on the Landing Zone
  • Reduced weight enables the gunner to mount the
ACSW by himself and in less time, allowing more
    soldiers to perform security
  • This reduces the time available to the enemy to
prepare for a counterattack, thus increasing
    combat effectiveness

19
Fast Roping the ACSW
  • The lightweight ACSW permits the establishment of
a blocking position with a heavy caliber or
    grenade machinegun
  • The capability to fast rope allows a dramatic
    increase in dismounted blocking position
    firepower
  • Low system weight allows team to move weapon on
    ground as needed

20
ACSW Summary
  • Provides New Weapon Capabilities
  • Passed All ATD Exit Criteria
  • Poised for the SDD Phase
  • Driving towards Low Rate Initial Production
