  • Can you describe him? (Did he have any habits?)

3
What was important to James?
  • He was interested in witches.
  • He wanted to be the 'Peacemaker' of Europe.
  • He believed strongly in the importance of the
    king.

4
What did he believe?
  • The Divine Right of Kings
  • He thought he was God's chosen representative on
    Earth.
  • He thought all his decisions were always right.
  • He thought his opinions and ideas were always the
    best.

5
What might Parliament think about this?
  • Remember - they were used to Elizabeth listening
    to their ideas.

6
What did James think about religion?
  • James was Protestant.
  • He met church members at the Hampton Court Church
Conference, 1604, but he disappointed the
    Puritans and Catholics.

7

  • They wanted him to change the church to get rid
    of bishops. He would not.
  • Some left to go to the 'New World'.

8
What about the Catholics?
  • They wanted him to stop the bad treatment of
Catholics in England. He did not.
  • Some decided to plot against him, planning on
blowing up the Houses of Parliament when he was
