• The committee defended France from domestic and
  foreign threats

The Reign of Terror

• To defend France domestically the committee took
  steps that would be known as the Reign of Terror.
• 40,000 were guillotined including Marie
  Antoinette.

• Revolutionary armies were set up to bring
  rebellious cities under control.
• City of Lyon 1880 citizens were executed.
• City of Nantes people put in barges and sunk into
  Loire River.
