Credits
  • Credits are recorded on your Academic Achievement
    Record (transcript) at the end of each semester.
  • Class rank and GPA are calculated in September,
    February and June.
  • Each semester stands alone. If a student fails a
    semester of a required course he/she must retake
    the course or gain credit through credit by exam.

Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • A student makes a grade of 100
  • Regular 5.0 grade points
  • Pre-AP 6.0 grade points
  • AP 6.25 grade points
  • Fully 90 of the Class of 2015 will not graduate
    in the top 10 of their class
  • 85 GHS graduates pursue post-secondary education

STAAR ASSESSMENTS The class of 2018 will need to
be successful on the following assessments to
meet graduation requirements.
  • English I-II
  • Algebra I
  • Biology
  • US History
  • STAAR assessments are course specific as opposed
    to TAKS which assessed comprehensive grade level
    content.

Skyward Online Arena Scheduling
  • A new scheduling process where students will
    create their own class schedule in Skyward based
    on courses they request in February.
  • Online arena scheduling will allow parents to be
    more actively involved in their students
    schedule.
  • Students will know their unofficial schedule for
    9th grade by the end of this school year.

Online Arena Scheduling Steps
  • Step 1 GHS counselors meet with 8th grade
    students to go over course requests for next
    year.
  • Feb 12 CMS
  • Feb 13 GMS
  • Feb 14 CTMS
  • Students can enter and change course requests on
    Skyward until February 26th.

Online Arena Scheduling Cont
  • Step 2 May 5-9 - 8th grade students log back
    into Skyward Student Access to build their 9th
    grade schedule.
  • The scheduling window opens at 700 a.m. on May
    5 and closes at midnight on May 9. Students may
    build their schedule from home or can use a
    computer at school.

  • May 9 - GHS counselors will be on middle school
    campuses to assist students with scheduling
    needs.

How does GT fit in?
  • AP courses fulfill GT course requirements at the
    high school level.
  • Freshmen can take Global Studies-a combination of
    AP Human Geography and PAP English I-similar to
    Discovery classes in middle school.
  • GT students must qualify to enroll in the Global
    Studies course (see counselor for qualifications).

  • Taking AP courses are a top indicator of college
    success.
  • Some colleges require AP courses as an entrance
    requirement.
  • Many colleges award college credit hours for
    success on the AP exam.
