Project Objectives

• To capture clinical experiential learning of
  veterinary students
• Encourage reflective and shared learning
• Summative and Formative assessment
• To generate a database of clinical cases
• Resource for teaching and research
• To generate a database of interactive virtual
  clinical cases
• As a self directed learning resource with
  feedback
• A robust assessment tool capable of assessing
  high level learning e.g. differential diagnosis,
  therapy and prognosis.

Phase I

• Student driven tool capable of capturing their
  clinical experiential learning
• Secure communication tool with tutors which
  facilitate feedback and summative assessment
• Secure searchable database of cases

Phase II

• Use of generic off the shelf tools to generate
  from the clinical cases database (phase I)
  interactive clinical cases which can be enabled
  to provide detailed feedback
• Summative assessment
• Secure transfer and storage of student marks to
  university central student database

Phase III

The Clinical Experience Recorder

• Integrated online solution
• Students can log in using a Single Sign On
  service
• Harnesses XFORMS technology
• Provides WEB 2.0 features
• A fully configurable workflow engine handles case
  management and access rights

Additional features

• Students are able to upload multimedia material
  accompanying the case
• Using a drawable canvas students can create
  drawings or annotate existing images
• Advance search mechanism

Creating Forms

• Developed a WYSIWYG editor for designing forms
• Aimed at non-technicalauthors
• This can be achieved with our use of XFORM
  technology
• We would like to create a similar editor for
  customising workflows
