  • What things can you think of in your home that
    are organized or classified into specific groups?

  • Classification is the process of grouping things
    based on their similarities.
  • Biologist use classification to organize living
    things into groups so that the organisms are
    easier to study.
  • Other scientists also classify things (Ex
    geologists classify rocks)

Levels of Classification
  • Todays classification system uses 7 levels to
    classify organisms.
  • The first group is the broadest level and the
    following levels all gradually become more
    specific.
