Video Formats
  • AVI (Audio Video Interleave )
  • Computer graphics animation format used in
    Microsoft.
  • The format interleaves digitized video frames (or
    computer-generated frames) and synchronized audio
    in one file.
  • MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Groups) MPEG
represents digital video and audio signals for
    consumer distribution.

5
Video Formats
  • Mpeg-1
  • The quality at standard VCD resolution and
bit-rate is near the quality and performance of a
    VHS tape.
  • Mpeg-2
  • MPEG2 multichannel audio is one of the digital
surround sound system available on DVD discs,
    another option for Dolby Digital.
  • MPEG-4 compression type, DivX, XviD are both
    MPEG4 codecs. Ex. WMV
  • MPEG-4 was aimed primarily at low bit-rate video
communications however, its scope was later
expanded to be much more of a multimedia coding
standard. MPEG-4 is efficient across a variety of
bit-rates ranging from a few kilobits per second
to tens of megabits per second.

6
Frame Rate Video Standards
  • NSTC (National Television System Committee )
  • North America Standard
  • 30 fps
  • DV NTSC video is 720 x 480
  • PAL
  • Europe Standard
  • 25 fps
  • DV PAL video is 720 x 576

Definitions
  • MP (Megapixels) means "one million pixels" and is
used when describing digital camera capability.
Digital cameras boast photo abilities over 9
    megapixels.
  • PPI or "pixels per inch" is the term you will see
most often when selecting a resolution for your
    images in photo editing software.
  • Pixel is an abbreviation for "picture element."
  • Millions of pixels make up the image of paper and
text that you are viewing on your screen right
    now.
  • DPI specifically refers to how many dots of ink
will print per inch. The higher the number, the
    sharper the image will be.
  • Most ink jet printers today are capable of
printing 1200 to 4800 dpi this means great
results for images with 200-300 ppi.

8
Pixel/Resolution Printer Setting
  • 2 MP 1600 x 1200 pixels
  • Great Quality 4 x 6 inches, 5 x 7 inches
  • Good Quality 8 x 10 inches
  • 3 MP 2048 x 1536 pixels
  • Great Quality 8 x 10 inches
  • Good Quality 10 x 13 inches
  • 5 MP 2592 x 1944 pixels
  • Great Quality 10 x 13 inches
  • Good Quality 13 x 19 inches

9
Resolution con.
  • Consider one thing when selecting resolutionyou
can always scale down your resolution but you
cannot increase the resolution of an image.
  • Bigger is better if you can accommodate the extra
file sizes on your computer and printer.
  • For best results, a good number to remember when
printing an image is 300 pixels/inch at actual
    size.
  • When resizing an image with photo editing
software, set the dimensions of the image to the
print size first (e.g. 5 x7) and then set the
resolution to 300 pixels/inch. The lower the
pixels per inch, the blurrier the image will
    appear on paper.
