• SIP is a protocol for initiating, modifying, and
  terminating multimedia sessions.
• SIP is a pretty mature, well understood, and
  frequently used session establishment protocol.
• In addition to establishing sessions, SIP can be
  used for controlling SPEECHSC resources.
