Churchmeant as a backup plan if PR was detained

    about the signals

  • "...in an instant I saw four of them, who rode up
to me, with their pistols in their hands, said
G-d d-n you stop. If you go an Inch further, you
are a dead Man...we attempted to git thro them,
but they kept before us, and swore if we did not
turn in to that pasture, they would blow our
brains out . . . .One of them, who appeared to
have the command, and much of a Gentleman, Asked
me where I came from I told him, he asked me
what time I left it I told him, he seemed
surprised, said Sir may I crave your name, I
answered my name is Revere, what said he Paul
Revere I answered yes the others abused much
but he told me not to be afraid, no one should
hurt me . . . I told him they would miss their
    aim"

  • By the rude bridge that arched the flood,Their
flag to April's breeze unfurled,Here once the
embattled farmers stood,And fired the shot heard
round the world. The foe long since in silence
    sleptAlike the conqueror silent sleepsAnd
Time the ruined bridge has sweptDown the dark
    stream which seaward creeps.
  • On this green bank, by this soft stream,We set
to-day a votive stoneThat memory may their deed
redeem,When, like our sires, our sons are gone.
  • Spirit, that made those heroes dareTo die, and
leave their children free,Bid Time and Nature
gently spareThe shaft we raise to them and thee.
  • Ralph Waldo Emerson
