Population 45.310 Area 924.4 km2
  • Geographically, the Lidzbark Warminski County is
    situated in the north-eastern region of Poland in
    the Province of Warmia and Mazury. It includes
    three rural communes (Lidzbark Warminski, Kiwity,
    Lubomino) and one urban (Lidzbark Warminski) and
    one rural and urban (Orneta). It borders with the
    following communes Bartoszyce, Braniewo, Elblag,
    Olsztyn and Ostroda.

THE HISTORICAL OUTLINE
  • The land of the Lidzbark County features
    unusually rich history. All communes creating the
    county received in the
  • 14th century their location
  • privilege based
  • on the Chelmno Law.
  • Despite many wars and
  • natural disasters, the
  • Lidzbark Warminski
  • County is provided with many monuments, which
    proof the rich history of this land.

    Over the last years, an intensive
    development of summer and winter
    tourism
  • is noticeable due to the exceptional
    landscape and recreational virtues.
    Fertile soils, mild climate, water
    resources, variety of plant and animal
    world are considered to be an
    abundance of this land.

LIDZBARK WARMINSKI
  • Lidzbark Warminski is situated at the Szlak
    Kopernikowski (Copernicus Trail) at the gorge of
    two rivers Lyna and Symsarna, 48 km away from
    Olsztyn and around 30 km away from the northern
    border crossing. The beautiful valley, where the
    town is situated, is surrounded by picturesque
    hills with the abundant flora and fauna. Little
    converted environment is the mainstay for game
    and flows.

  • can be admired here
  • are very like the
  • landscapes of the
  • mountain trail. The
  • gorge of the Sysmarna River with the beautiful
    landscape is a particularly beautiful
    place. There is 2,5 kilometre tourist trail
    running along the Symsarna River.

  • Lidzbark Warminski for
  • over 400 years was the
  • capital of the historical
  • Warmia Region. Due
  • to its location, numerous
  • high class monuments and outstanding people of
    the then times, is often called the called the
    Pearl of the Warmia Region. Listing the famous
    residents of the town, it is impossible to omit
    Nicolaus Copernicus, Igancy Krasicki, Marcin
    Kromer and Stanislaw Grabowski.

  • The most important historic monuments include
  • -     the Castle of Lidzbark erected between
    1350 and 1401 on the peninsula at the Symsarna
    River mouth. For many centuries, it was a place
    of residence for bishops (Ignacy Krasicki) was
    the last one)

  • -      High Gate
  • -   Saint Piotr and Pawels church and
  • -     Raising the Holy Cross church.

LIDZBARK WARMINSKI COMMUNE
  • The commune is located at
  • the Mazurian Lake District and
  • Sepopolski Hill. It is rated
  • among the part of the Green
  • Lungs of Poland.
  • There are three picturesquely located lakes,
    around which there are well-developed tourist
    facilities. The Blanki Lake encompassing an area
    of 458 hectares is the largest one. It neighbours
    with the following villages Suryty, Gajlity,
    Potryty and Blanki. There is the PTSM Switez
    tourist centre offering tourist facilities,
    camping site as well as beds in the youth hostel.

  • Wielochowo Lake takes the third place as far as
    size is concerned and it is surround by arable
    fields. There is also Bialy Labedz tourist
    facility, camping site, shop and bar and water
    sport equipment hire.
  • Rivers such as Lyna, Symsarna, Elma, Kirsna,
    Drweca flowing to Pasleka are also full of charm.
  • Zacisze Lesne holiday centre is situated by the
    Symsarna River, two kilometers from Lidzbark
    Warminski and among beautiful forest areas, it
    offers accommodation and full board.

ORNETA
  • Orneta is one of the most beautiful towns In the
    Warmia Region. It was established in the first
    years of the 14th century on the Wyrmedyten old
    Prussia settlement field. On the 26th of March
    1313, Orneta was granted civitas, i.e. town.
  • It encompasses an area of 963 hectares and
    population is 9,960. The town is the seat of the
    municipality.

  • Orneta is situated on the Ornecka Plain. The
    Orneta forests are abundant in the most valuable
    species of mushroom and undergrowth, the Pasleka
    River or Taftowo lake however, located 10 km from
    Orneta, are ideal places to fish. It is also a
    place of rest and camping of the Orneta residents
    and tourists.

  • The most important historic monuments include
  • The Gotic town hall from the 14th century, the
    only such preserved in the Warmia Region. The
    oldest bell coming from 1384 is situated on the
    Baroque town hall tower
  • Small tenement houses were built as annexes and
    surrounded the town hall, peddlers and merchants
    lived there
  • The Saint Jans church erected in the 14th
    century built round with chapels is one of the
    most beautiful Gothic churches in Poland
  • Jerozolimska (Jerusalem) Chapel

  • Primary School No 1, which
  • was established on the
  • foundations of the old bishop
  • castle. Its basements
  • have been preserved in the
  • original state
  • Visitation of the Holiest Virgin
  • Marys Sanctuary in Krosno.
  • According to the legend, children
  • found a figure of the Virgin Mary
  • in the Drweca River. On the
  • same place, a chapel was established in 1593.
    Influx of pilgrims contributed to the
    establishment of the present church between 1715
    and 1720, and

LUBOMINO COMMUNE
  • Lubomino Commune is situated in the northern part
    of Warmia. It borders with the following
    communes Lidzbark Warminski, Milakowo, Dobre
    Miasto, Swiatki and Orneta. The railway line is
    running through the commune and connects Olsztyn
    with Braniewo and further through Kaliningrad
    District.

  • The Lubomino Commune is included in the
    physiographic unit of the Olsztyn Lake District.
  • The majority of agricultural farms, out of 400
    farms possess from 15 up to 30 hectares. Corns
    are dominating within the crop structure,
    breeding however is represented by cattle and
    swine.
  • There are no larger industrial plants in the
    commune and there are 75 businesses registered,
    which mainly deal with trade, services and small
    manufacture.

  • Picturesque and environmentally valuable objects
    as well as landscapes concentrate in the Pasleka
    River Valley. The river within the commune area
    is considered to be the mountain waters due
  • to trout and umber
  • occurring here.
  • There is the mainstay of beavers in the Pasleka
    River and the bank side areas make up a nature
    reserve. The basin of the Tonka Lake situated
    near by Lubomino is also under protection it
    encompasses an area of 162 hectares with the
    island in the middle.

    classicist architecture, in Eldyty Wielkie
    Neo-classicist manor house from the 18th century,
    and
  • Parish churches in Lubomino, Bieniewo,
    Rogielde, Wilczkowo, Eldyty Wielkie and
    Wapnik.

KIWITY COMMUNE
  • Kiwity is a typically agricultural commune. It is
    situated at the northern edge of the Olsztyn Lake
    District on the Lidzbark Warminski. Reszel
    Ketrzyn route. It encompasses an area of 145,5
    km2 and has a population of 3,754. An
    unquestionable andvantage of the commune is pure
    unpolluted natural environment.

  • The existing nature reserves can surely be the
    places of pride for the country. They are very
    valuable as far as ornithology is concerned.
    These include Bartniki 2 km from Kiwity with the
    Bartniki pool encompassing an area of around 92
    hectares considered to be an Ecological Use.
    These are breeding places of many rare species
    such as grebe Podiceps cristatus, P. griseigena,
    P. nigricollis, P. ruficollis and also lxobrychus
    minutus, Botaurus Stellaris, Sterninae and Sterna
    Hirundu. Ideal biological habitat has been
    created for other interesting species of birds
    such as ducks. Apart from the common mallard, the
    number of teals has increased.

    from the 14th century
  • -   Fencing of the church cemetery with two gates
    and three chapels from the 18th and the 19th
    century
  • -     Neo-Gothic way-side chapel from the
    beginning of the 20th century in Kiwity
  • -    Mother of Peace with the Visitation of the
    Holiest Virgin Mary Church in Stoczek Klasztorny,
    and
  • -      Jan Ewangielistas Church, many
  • wayside chapels from the break of
  • the 18th and 19th century (Czarny
  • Kierz, Klejdyty, Krekole and Rokitnik).
