Title: IE 1225
1IE 1225 Intro to Design Manufacturing
- Week Two
- Using the Sketcher
- J. Voss R. Lindeke
2Getting Started -- remember
Start Part Design with a Blank Sheet --
Mechanical Design Part Design
3After we start Pick a Logical Name
4Tools_Customize_Toolbars_Restore Position
and dont forget the COMPASS!
5Enter SKETCHER on yz Plane!
Set up grid information with Tools Options
6Allow Distortion H 100mm and 20 V 100mm and
10
Make sure Parameters . Units in millimeters first!
7Follow Tutorial 2.1 Spline/Circle/Pad with
experimentation
8Sketcher on Front Face!
Select it and then the Part Face
9Construction on Projection
10Smart Picking Constraints to Geometry
11Pocketing
12Cornering
13Sketching XY Plane and Cutting by that Plane
drawing on the inside!
The Cutting Plane ICON may be hidden check
Tools/Customize and any light gtgt icons!
14Making a Circle as prescribed!
Double-Clicking an ICON keeps it active for more
than one Feature
15Pad the Circle into the original holes surfaces
16Dont forget to File .. SaveAs
17Constraints!!!!
Be careful constraints are Super Powerful but
can get you into trouble especially
Auto-Constraints
Use these Constraint Tools double click them to
hold!
18Use Constraints w/out Snap Speedier Drawing
For Geometric Constraints here Angle
19Length Distance Between Whatever
20As long as it stays green you are OK
21Corner Tools Great Care!
Red Line Trouble!!!
22Corners Fillets (Chamfers) Be careful!
23After Pad MORE (both above and below the X-Y
Plane)
Choice of the one that shows Hidden Lines
24Now go to work
- Begin Developing Parts labeled
- 2.1b, 2.1c, 2.1d, 2.1f in the handout
- Due next Monday in Class!
- Examine the parts before you begin
- Choose Principle Plane(s)
- Plan any Auxiliary views for further sketching of
details - Think First Draw Later!
- A good Design Engineer makes a drawing plan
before a Drawing!
