Definition Clinical nurse specialist
  • Is a registered Nurse who has acquired the
    expert knowledge base, complex decision making
    skills and clinical competencies for expanded
    practice.

  • A CNS is a registered Nurse who has acquired
    additional specialist knowledge and experience.
  • Having completed or demonstrated the ability to
    complete a degree, they will have the skills and
    competencies required to manage a clinical
    caseload within agreed boundaries and protocols
    in-line with clinical governance.
