MISSION STATEMENT
  • Beaufort County Community College is a public
    comprehensive community college with a commitment
    to provide accessible and affordable quality
    education, relevant training, and lifelong
    learning opportunities for the people served by
    the College.

College Milestones
  • 1960
  • 1960 - Initiated Practical Nursing Program
  • 1962 - Added Industrial Education Center to
    include vocational courses
  • 1963 - Became a branch of Lenoir County Technical
    Institute
  • 1964 - Became a branch of Pitt Technical
    Institute
  • 1966 - Hired the first full-time
    director/president
  • 1967 - Chartered as Beaufort County Technical
    Institute
  • 1969 - Purchased Permanent site and began
    construction on the first building, named
    for Graham Elliott

  • 1973 - Received full accreditation from the
    Southern Association of Colleges and
    Schools
  • 1974 - Completed Vocational/laboratory building
    named for Delmar Keech
  • 1977 - Completed Nursing/Allied Health building
    named for
  • Katie G. Paul
  • 1978 - Completed Vocational building
  • 1978 - Earned reaffirmation of accreditation from
    Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
  • 1979 - Added College Transfer program
  • 1979 - Changed name to Beaufort County Community
    College

  • 1983 - Adult Basic Education funded
  • 1984 - Created BCCC Foundation to unite community
    resources with BCCC needs
  • 1988 - Earned reaffirmation of accreditation from
    Southern Association of Colleges and
    Schools

  • 1990 - Passed Local bond referendum to fund
    construction of Continuing Education/Community
    Services building
  • 1992 - Completed Continuing Education/Community
    Services building
  • 1993 - Passed State bond referendum to fund
    construction of Student Services/Science
    building
  • 1996 - Completed Student Services/Science
    building
  • 1997 - NCCCS Reengineering completed with
    conversion to the semester system and
    Comprehensive Articulation Agreement with
    UNC System
  • 1997 - Purchased 13 additional acres of land for
    future expansion
  • 1998 - Earned reaffirmation of accreditation from
    Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
  • 1998 - Opened new maintenance building and
    converted the old building to classroom space
    for Continuing Education
  • 1999 - Expanded distance Learning with
    implementation of BCCC Internet classes
    funded by USDA Distance Learning grant
  • 1999 - Completed BCCC Foundation 3-year campaign
    with assets topping 350,000

  • 2000 - Completed commissioned study of community
    college service areas and made
    recommendations to the community college
    system
  • 2000 - Statewide community college bond
    referendum is passed BCCC received 7.2
    million for construction and renovation
  • 2001 - Received US Dept. of Education Title III
    Strengthening Institutions award of 1.7
    million for equipment and faculty development
  • 2002 - Received 265,000 award from RIAA to
    enhance distance education efforts and
    182,800 from Golden LEAF to expand Heavy
    Equipment and Transportation Technology
    program
  • 2003 - Completed Public Safety Building (10)
    funded by 2000 bond referendum
  • 2003 - Building 7 replaced and upgraded to house
    Heavy Equipment and Transportation Technology
    programs
