What Is The Machinery Information ManagementOpen
Systems Alliance (MIMOSA)?
  • A Maintain, Repair, Operate (MRO) Industry Trade
Association that is organized as a non-profit
    corporation
  • 50 Sponsors Members (9 Countries)
  • MRO Solution Technology Vendors
  • Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) Solution
    Vendors
  • Computerized Maintenance Management System
    (CMMS)/Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) Vendors
    - (Maintenance Logistics System Vendors)
  • Capital Equipment OEMs
  • Systems Integrators
  • Equipment Operators Maintainers
  • MRO Solutions Consultants

4
Current MIMOSA Government RelatedMRO Initiatives
  • Partnership with the OSA-CBM Program
  • Relationship with Army PM-TMDE
  • NAVSEA-TOSA Program-2001 MIMOSA Member
  • Dialog with Army Digital Aviation Logistics
    Prototype Program (DAL-P)
  • DAL-P proposed MIMOSA as key enabling technology
  • Dialog with GCSS-A
  • Dialog with Army CECOM
  • Telemaintenance Architecture
  • Concept Prototype
  • Demonstration Project Proposal
  • Dialog with National Institute of Building
    Sciences

5
The ProblemThe Complexity of MRO Integration
If you accept the need to integrate MRO related
technologies in order to properly manage your
complex assets, the immediate problem is the
complexity and expense associated with doing it
in a useful and comprehensive way.
  • The range of MRO related technologies to be
    integrated
  • What are the basic MRO integration options?

6

What Options Do Organizations Have When
Integrating Their MRO Asset Data?
  • Custom Point-To-Point Integration
  • Cost Complexity Often Prohibitive
  • One-off Integration
  • Constant Maintenance Required (est. 30 annual)
  • Wait for somebody else to figure it all out
  • Work with MIMOSA Use Industry-Driven, Open
    Systems Approach for Integration Specifications
  • Use existing MIMOSA specifications for current
    work
  • Help develop MIMOSA specifications for future
    requirements
  • Work with us as a path toward open, consensus
    based standards

MIMOSA As A Standards Safe Harbor
  • MIMOSA Technical Director (Ken Bever) Is The
    Convener of ISO TC018/SC5/WG6
  • TC108--Shock Vibration)
  • Subcommittee 5 (SC5--Machinery Condition
    Monitoring Analysis)
  • Working Group 6 (Data Processing Requirements,
    Communication Format Requirements, and
    Presentation Requirements of Machinery Condition
    Monitoring Analysis Data).
  • ANSI S2.10 will write the draft for ISO.
  • ANSI S2.10 meetings will usually be held in
    conjunction with MIMOSA developers meetings.
  • MIMOSA Specifications will be a normative
    reference.

15
The Applicability of MIMOSA to the Military
MIMOSAs MRO Information Integration
Specifications are enablers for open,
multi-platform, multi-vendor maintenance oriented
application integration. They facilitate the
military use of Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS)
maintenance application solutions enable
horizontal vertical information integration.
  • A summary MIMOSA Military Application Schema
  • The MIMOSA Information Network (MIN) technology
demonstration platform in a military context
    (demo in conjunction with OSA-CBM)
  • This demonstration was done with multiple vendors
integrating MRO information on servers in 4
    cities.
  • The entire demonstration was conceptualized,
organized and developed in less than 4 months
with a mostly volunteer, staff showing the power
    of the MIMOSA open specifications
