Mental Health Scenario of Bangladesh
  • Geographical area 147570 square km.
  • Total population 141.8 million.
  • 39 of the population under the age 15.
  • 6 population over the age 60.
  • 74 population is rural.
  • 16.05 of the adult are suffering from Mental
  • 1 Mental hospital of 500 bed(70 schizophrenia,
    30 mood disorder).
  • 10 NGOs involved in Mental Health Service
  • 4 trained medical Doctors are in the Mental
    Health field.

Mental Health Scenario of Bangladesh
  • 2 trained nurses are in the Mental Health field.
  • O.49 of total number of human resource are
    working in Mental Health per 100,000.
  • Mental Health for prisoners is insufficient.
  • No Mental Disorder is covered in social insurance
  • No human rights review body exists
  • No specific Mental Health Authority.
  • 31 community based psychiatric inpatient unit for
    a total 0.58 bed per 100,000.
  • 2 Institutes for Juvenile delinquent.

  • Its a short term, interpersonal, theory based,
    helping profession.
