IT baseline allows us to adapt program changes
easily
  • Malaria objectives changed from at-risk groups to
household coverage (2 nets per HH) and then
Universal (all sleeping spaces being covered)
  • Change in objectives made possible, and possibly
fueled by, influx of huge sums of donor money
  • GF begins in 2004, Tanzania first grant
    recipient
  • PMI begins in 2006
  • Govt of TZ decides to catch up the coverage of
    children under five.
  • MEDA and other cooperating NGOs finished the
    U5CC in May 2010
  • Distribute 7.2 million nets
  • Next up is Universal Coverage Campaign with 14MM
    nets
  • Key issue remains What happens next? If the
free net distribution is catch up, how do we
    keep up?

14
Scaling up Technology base allows MEDA TZ to
find new ways
Data Dissemination
Program Management
Data Collection
  • Vehicle tracking software improves general
    operations
  • Planning TNVS monitoring activities
  • Driver performance and vehicle safety
  • LLIN issuing points
  • Detailed maps can be generated and overlaid with
other statistics using various GIS software
    platforms
  • ESRI
  • Google Earth
  • Handheld GPS units and a vehicle tracking system
    collect location coordinates for
  • Clinics
  • Retailers
  • District offices
  • Villages
  • Petrol filling stations

Expand We can then drill down by geography. Here
is a region.
16
Expand And then to the District level
17
Expand As detailed as we need to. Here is the
ward level.
18
Expand The next step involves appropriating
other mapping technologies into the database.
Here is our data overlaid on Google Earth.
19
Expand We can pinpoint a location. Here is
MEDAs office.
20
Expand Here is profile data attached to the
location
