(1) Setting Up a Billing Account
  • The PI (adviser) for the account has to set up
    the account and give you access.
  • This will be your adviser in most cases.

Using Equipment Billing
  • Coral is the method for reservations and billing
    for the MSE Electron Microscopy Facility
  • Log Sheets will continue to be used to track
    usage and comments.
  • Using Coral
  • Reservations
  • Enabling a Instrument
  • This starts the equipment use and is equivalent
    to signing in on a billing sheet.
  • It also disables the interlocks
  • Use the instrument.
  • Disable the Instrument
  • This ends bill and locks out the instrument

Reservations
  • Select the equipment from the equipment tree on
    the left by clicking on it.
  • Highlight the time slot you would like to use.
  • Under the Reservation Actions menu, select Make
  • Choose the account and project you would like to
    use.
  • To cancel a reservation
  • select the reservation and chose Delete from
    the Reservation Actions menu. 
  • Note  Equipment you are qualified on will have
    an asterisk next to it.

you reserve time on the T300

Using an Instrument
  • To Enable the System
  • Select the equipment you want to use.
  • Under the Equipment Actions menu, select Enable
  • This starts the equipment use and is equivalent
    to signing in on a billing sheet.
  • Use the equipment.
  • Disable the Instrument
  • When you are finished with the equipment, select
    Disable from the Equipment Actions menu.

Reporting Equipment Problems
  • Report Equipment Issues
  • Select the instrument in Coral. 
  • Under the Equipment Actions menu, select the
    appropriate level of notification.
  • Equipment Action Levels
  • Make comment  This is for when you need to
    communicate with the staff about a  non-critical
    equipment issues.  (ie. Glove have run out, one
    of the magnification relays is buggy)
  • Report problem  This will change the green arrow
    to yellow.  This action is for equipment that is
    not performing at 100, but is still usable. (ie.
    The instrument is taking too long to pump down)
  • Shutdown (Admin Only)  This will change the
    stoplight to RED.  It is for equipment that is
    not functional. (ie. The filament burned out.)

Viewing Reported Issues
  • Click on the instrument of interest
  • Select the Maintenance tab
  • Select the desired Comment, Problem or Shutdown
    message
  • Click Show Message

Reservation and Billing Policies
  • Reservations may be no more than 4 hrs per
    session or day on any one instrument.
  • No more than 12 hours may be reserved on any one
    instrument at any time.
  • Adjustments to billed time for failure to disable
    an instrument will be limited to one occurrence
    per person.
  • Abuse of reservation policies will be dealt with
    on a case by case basis.
