Prewriting

• Thinking about the subject.
• Organizing your thoughts before writing.

Drafting

• Putting ideas down on paper.
• Focus is on content not mechanics.
• Examples
• taking notes, organizing thoughts
• into paragraphs, writing a first draft

Revising

• Refining the piece of writing.
• Adding to a writing piece.
• Reorganizing a piece of writing.
• Shares the story and gets input from peers or
  teacher.
• Examples
• peer editing, conferencing, sharing with class

Editing

• Fixing mechanical, grammatical and spelling
  errors
• Examples
• Checklists, rubrics, editing checklists,
  proofreading

Publishing

• Preparing in final form, including illustrations.
  
• Sharing with others.

  the room, printing in books, web publishing, many
