The Rifle Platoon
  • The platoon is contains 3 sections
  • A Headquarters element consisting of the Platoon
    Radio Operator, Sergeant 2 Privates.
  • The Platoon is usually commanded by a 2LT or a
    LT. On occasion or in some specialist roles a
    platoon is commanded by a Senior NCO or WO.
  • Approximately 28 men, 2 Vehicles

The Rifle Company
  • A Company is made of three Rifle Platoons
  • It also has a Headquarters element, usually of
    section strength CSM (WO2), CQMS (CSGT)
    signallers, storemen and drivers.
  • It is commanded by a Major, with a Captain as
    2ic.
  • Approximately 100 men, 12 Vehicles

  • The battalion is made up of 3 Rfl Coys
  • a Support Company of Heavier/Specialist Weapons
  • a HQ Company with stores, technicians, clerks,
    drivers, trucks etc.
  • Commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel
  • 2ic is an experienced Major
  • Regimental Sergeant Major (WO1) is the senior
    soldier.
  • About 550 men, 60 vehicles
