Where the giant panda lives!

Description
The giant panda is a small black and white bear.
It has dark black patches around its eyes and a
black saddle across its back. The giant panda
also has black fore and hind limbs and black
ears. Then everywhere else on its body is white.
The giant panda can weigh up to 150kg and
measuring up to 1. 5 meters in length.
5
Diet
More than 99 percent of food consumed by the
giant panda consists of the branches, stems and
leaves of 30 species of bamboo. Adults can eat
up to 12 to 15 kilograms (26-33 pounds) per day.
When feeding on new bamboo shoots they are
capable of eating up to 38 kilograms (84 pounds)
per day. Which is about 40 percent of there
average body weight. The giant pandas also eat a
very small amount of meat.

Panda cubs
The giant panda is mostly active at night. The
giant pandas mating season is during the spring
from March to mid May. The giant panda can have
litters of one two or three cubs. Then they will
be born in August to September but normally only
one cub will be raised. After the cub is born it
will stay with its mother up to 18 months.

Panda cubs
These are the pictures of a giant panda when it
was born, when it is 1 month, when it was 6
months and when it was 1 years old. As you can
see the giant panda can grow very fast.
8
Why the giant panda is endangered
The giant pandas is because its habitat is being
destroyed by farming and clearing of forests and
development.
All the different types of bamboo are dying out.
The most key one out of these three is this one.
The giant pandas breeding season is March to mid
May. This makes it harder for the giant panda
because they dont have much time to breed. There
breeding season is roughly about 2 months and 2
weeks.
9
What is being done
Some giant pandas have been put in captivity so
they can breed and so humans can try and save
them from extinction.
There is a current plan of conservation
management which The World Wildlife Fund and
Chinese Ministry of Forestry have developed. This
outlines 14 new Panda reserves and 5 corridors
connecting patches of Panda habitat.
There has been a successful breeding program in
Chinese zoos. The way the breeding program is
helping the giant pandas is by increasing their
population.
