6
Proposal (cont)
  • In order for a candidate standard to be eligible
to be maintained as a stabilized standard it must
address mature technology or practices, and as a
result, be unlikely to require revision.  In
addition, the standard must be required for use
in connection with existing implementations or
    for reference purposes.
  • In terms of length of time as an ANS, to be
eligible for stabilization, an ANS has to be
  • 1) reaffirmed at least once and
  • 2) at least 10 years have passed since the
approval or last revision of the standard as an
    ANS.

7
Proposal (cont)
  • The IEEE SA must process the proposed Stabilized
standard in accordance with its accredited
procedures.  A consensus body is to be involved
in the decision to maintain the standard as a
    "stabilized" ANS.
  • A standard that is maintained as a stabilized ANS
shall include a clear statement of the intent to
consider requests for change and information on
    the submittal of such requests.
