What Exactly is the Knowledge Economy?
  • He who receives an idea from me receives
instruction himself without lessening mine as he
who lights his taper at mine receives light
without darkening me. - Thomas Jefferson
  • Technology and knowledge are now the key factors
of production. What of Land, labour, capital and
    entrepreneurship?
  • Enhancing human capital is critical for GDP
growth. GDP is a measure of the economy adopted
in the United States in 1991 the total market
values of goods and services by produced by
workers and capital within the borders of a
nation during a given period usually 1 year
  • Globalization, Information/Knowledge Intensity,
    and Networking/Connectivity are the driving
    forces of the Knowledge Economy
  • Know-why and know-who matters more than
    know-what
  • Life long learning is vital for organisations
    and individuals
  • ICT releases people's creative potential and
    knowledge
  • Knowledge gained by experience is as important
    as formal education and training

Physician, Heal Thyself
  • You can only give what you have. Empowering
others would mean youre already empowered
    yourself
  • KnowledgeHouse Africas increased influence will
bring increasing demands within an increasingly
    complex economy
  • Meeting the need of others would require
additional efforts twice the work others will
    do
  • The Knowledge Economy comes with a self-serving
pool of resources, accessible through the
    opportunities that the Internet provides

4
Practical Steps
  • What is your IP address, or URL? Playing a key
role in the KE demands web presence e.g. a
website or a blog spot (www.blogger.com,
    www.20six.co.uk)
  • Connect with ongoing national/regional/global
efforts hat rhyme with your mission. For example,
AISI Youth list, eNigeria Yahoo Group
NigeriaTomorrow, ICT4D News and the WSIS Process
  • Be a proactive and creative pioneer. Some say
why? and I choose to ask, why not?
  • Add energy to group efforts, and whatever you do,
    always make time for IMPACT!
