19Contraction Surgery
- Contraction Surgery is a fun activity to help
children understand how contractions are made. We
started by playing a contraction concentration
game. Students turned the game cards face down
and matched the contraction to the two original
words. Afterwards, we began our training in
gram"medical" school. -
- Students worked in pairs. They took turns being
the doctor and the nurse. The doctor performed
the surgery while the nurse passed medical
instruments to him/her. The medical tools were - scissors (scalpel)
- temporary stitches (paper clips)
- permanent stitches (tape)
- bandages (half a band-aid).
- When the band-aid comes off, a scar is left.
That's the apostrophe!
