• Last years workshop addressed research into
  alcohols role in morbidity and mortality and
  Best Practices into prevention e.g. policy
  initiatives

• Recommendations from that workshop supported
  advocacy with governments to refrain from
  changing Ontarios current system in alcohol
  retail and marketing system.

• Currently, the Ontario government is reviewing
  this system looking for ways to get better value
  for both consumers and the government while
  maintaining the strong commitment to social
  responsibility that Ontarians expect (Beverage

• A Review Panel is looking at best practices and
  models from other jurisdictions

• Today, we have our own Review Panel of experts in
  the fields of alcohol policy, health and safety
  and economics.
• We are asking three questions which will help
  formulate recommendations to the government panel
  addressing this review.
• What is the importance of alcohol control from
  an international perspective
• What current trends in alcohol retailing and
  marketing in North American jurisdictions are
  problematic or potentially problematic and why?
• Given a scenario where alcohol is made more
  accessible in the province of Ontario, what would
  be the impact on the following sectors
• Health promotion, Addiction treatment,Anti-impaire
  d driving, Enforcement, Vox populi
