Title: Plan Do Study Act

1
Plan - Do - Study - Act
  • Lets Talk About School Improvement That Works!

Is Your Current System for Improvement Working?
2
Is This Session for You?
  • Are you satisfied with your student achievement
    results?
  • Are your stakeholders satisfied?
  • Do you know where to initiate change to yield
    better results?

3
You Are in the Right Place If . . .
  • You are overwhelmed,
  • You believe what you are currently doing is not
making the big difference in student achievement
    you had hoped for,
  • You are ready to re-energize your use of PDSA

4
PDSA
  • Is only a tool when not used appropriately!
  • Is not a thing to do, its a way to do!
  • Its a frame of mind!
  • Its ongoing, a cycle!

5
Preparing for change
  • Strategic Quality Planning is a way to assess the
    organizations current state, describe its
desired future state, and move toward its desired
    future state.
  • It is best led by administration but . . .
  • Everyone has a hand in becoming involved in its
    implementation.

6
How does the cycle work?
  • Start with S!
  • Yes, thats rightyou cant create a plan unless
you know where you are. Study current
information and pinpoint areas of improvement.

7
Preparing for change
  • Plan a change to improve your system that
    produces results important to stakeholders,
especially those closest to the work,
  • Use an Expectation/ Assumption analysis, the
results of a simple survey, or a data collection
session to help target areas of improvement.

8
Quality Tools
  • Dont disguise what you already are doing as CLS
    best practices,
  • There are tools which are specific to each stage
    of continuous improvement,
  • There is a relationship which exists between the
    tools and their use.

For a detailed review of each tools use, please
see the Tools of the Trade presentation. For
blank templates, click the, Templates link on
the CLS website.

worth your time and effort, could you do it?

13
How does the cycle work?
  • P stands for PLAN
  • What are the desired results (your (goal or
    goals)?
  • How will you measure progress toward that goal?
  • How will you know when youve gotten there?
  • What resources will you need to get the job done?

14
Wildly important goals
  • How do you know when a goal is worthwhile?
  • Use your filter!!!
  • If it doesnt make you or your
  • stakeholders wild about change
  • ditch it!

15
The Goal Filter

importance in terms of leadership, strategy, and
    stakeholder needs.

Plan-Do-Study-Act
  • The journey of continuous improvement is never
