Y band at 1.035 µm
14
  • Morphology of JHK lightcurves
  • Primary maxima occur a few days before T(Bmax)
  • Secondary maximum occurs later in slower
    declining events
  • Secondary maximum can be brighter than primary
    maximum (e.g., in Y H bands)
  • H K light curves are relatively flat around
    T(Bmax)

  • Reddening
  • SNe Ia with intermediate decline rates (0.9 lt
?m15(B) lt 1.3) appear to have similar V-IR color
    evolution
  • As expected, the V-IR color evolution of slower
and faster declining events differ in a way that
is yet to be accurately determined
  • Use of optical-IR color evolution to determine
reddening should ultimately prove more precise
    than optical-only colors

  • Absolute Magnitudes
  • Hubble Diagram
  • The decline rate vs. luminosity relation
appears to be nearly flat in the H band
  • Initial results from 7 SNe Ia with H band
observations give a Hubble constant (Ho 71)
consistent with that derived from optical data
(Ho 73) using the Key Project Cepheid
    calibration
