  at least 1-2 hours away.

  adults, this will help us attract and retain
  working adults and retirees. Then, well attract
  new businesses to support them. This will
  stimulate our economy by creating more jobs!
• Even people living in Fayetteville complain that
  there is nothing to do. We can create a
  competitive advantage in helping us come out on
  the top of the list if we do this right!

Baby Boomers are the key!

• Baby Boomers 76 million born between 1946 and
  1964 are now 45-63 yrs old. Many will go back to
  school, train for new careers and keep working
  through retirement. They are more mobile and 43
  of all leading-edge Boomers think they will move
  to a new home during retirement. While some plan
  to stay within 50 miles, many will relocate to
  other states.

• One retirement household is equivalent to 3.7
  manufacturing jobs based on studies as follows
• Based on a new plant opening with 100 new jobs
  and comparing to 100 new retirement households
  moving in to a community with both having the
  same income of 350/week or 18,200/yr
  1,820,000 of new income potential.
• Leakage on the manufacturing side
• 35 terminated jobs they had out of county for a
  lost of -637,000.
• 15 lost because workers commute from other
  counties -273,000.
• 20 lost for Federal and State Income Taxes

  taxes, few or no family members living nearby,
  lack of healthcare amenities, lack of leisure
  activity opportunities and state tax rates.
• Major pull factors causing people to relocate are
  climate (4 seasons), scenic beauty, cultural and
  recreational opportunities, proximity to medical
  care and learning opportunities.
• People want a sense of place to the community in
  which they live.

Economic Development and Stimulus Plan

• Promote Laurinburg as an Active Community like
  many developers do to attract retirees to their
  active adult communities.
• Promote what groups are currently doing and add
  activities to these to fill up our Active
  Laurinburg calendar of events.
• Utilize existing facilities like our tennis
  courts, softball fields, soccer fields, golf
  courses, bowling alley, canoe trails, school
  gymnasiums, college facilities, banquet halls and
  meeting rooms, etc.
• Build better facilities for Bocce ball and
  croquet at Hammond Park.
