Title: From Starlight in Chicago (USA) to CERN in Geneva (Switzerland), 1TeraByte of data has flown across 7

1
From Starlight in Chicago (USA) to CERN in Geneva
(Switzerland), 1TeraByte of data has flown across
7067 Km in less than 30 minutes at the TCP rate
of 5.44Gbps. This translates to 38.35
Terabit-meters/second, thus beating the former
Internet2 landspeed record established on
February 27-28 by a Caltech, CERN, Los Alamos
National Laboratory (LANL) and Stanford Linear
Accelerator Centre (SLAC) between Sunnyvale in
California and CERN in Geneva, by almost a factor
2.
According to the Internet2 landspeed contest the
winner will be the one whose results yield the
largest value of the product of the achieved
bandwidth (bits/second) multiplied by the sum of
the terrestrial distances between each router
location.  The contest unit of measurement is
thus bit-meters/second.
Breaking News
Achieved by a Caltech, CERN team on October 1,
2003. The award ceremony will take place on
October 16 at 1735 live from the Internet2 fall
member meeting in Indianapolis.
