• Low Cost. The fee for using Open Source Software
  is typically very low, just enough nto cover the
  distribution and support cost.
• High Quality. The scientific method development
  process encourages large numbers of developers to
  look at the same code base. The result is rapid
  problem resolution and bug fixes.
• Wide Choice. Because the Source Code can run on
  many different hardware platforms, users gain
  tremendous control over which hardware they run.

Risks Dead-end Software. Open Source projects
may fail to gain or retain large numbers of
coding volunteers, which could lead to a dead
product. Fragmentation. Code base may fork
(be split into multiple projects) which could
lead to incompatible versions. In practice, this
rarely happens because developers would rather
improve than revolt.
