2Delivering the Power of InformationEnabling
Net-Centric Operations
- In the network world, the challenge was making
stand-alone systems interoperable - In the net-centric world, data is exposed in
standard ways, and knowledge is availablethe
right information to the right personanytime,
anywhere - Persistent Collaboration is command and control
of the future. - The movement to a Services-Oriented environment
provides tremendous opportunity but also
requires changes in both thought and process
across the organization
Achieving an information advantage for our
people and mission partners

5Aligned Education and TrainingAcross DoD is
Essential
- Need to raise awareness in military schools on
the importance of net-centric information
sharing - Net-Centric Information Sharing as a JPME
Special Area of Emphasis (SAE) - Concept Make information discoverable and
accessible to the enterprise. - Technology Enterprise resources are available
to facilitate the process.
Net-Centric Information Sharing is
dual-orientedboth engineers (J6) and operators
(J3) must be involved
6Target Campuses

- The spectrum of net-centric information sharing,
from concept to technology, with examples of it
working well - Presidential Directive, Federal Environment
- DoD Data Strategy
- Companion Services Strategy
- DISA/Enterprise Services
- DoD CIO-facilitated COIs (e.g, Maritime Domain
Awareness, Strike) - Impediments and plans to resolve those
- Resources for on-going reference
- We will draw upon knowledgeable partners across
DoD and federal agencies to demonstrate the
balanced, wide buy-in for net-centric information
sharing.
8Methods/Content
- Introductory Seminar - 2 hours, open to entire
campus - Speakers, panelists to provide expert background
and context Include QA - Short Course - 2 days, for those who want more
info - Executive-level overview - work with current
faculty to provide info and/or guest presenter - Focus Study Elective - 6-8 wks, 2 hrs each
session - Longer commitment would require additional staff
expertise - Team Projects - small group interaction among the
schools - Opportunity to work Joint-ly
- Practice net-centric information sharing
- Access Community of Interest products, for
real-time exposure and feedback - Individual Papers
- Assistance with reach-back experts, resources,
and perspectives as students engage in research
and formulate theses
9Way Ahead near term
- Contact as many of the schools as possible
personal visit preferred - Meet with faculty to explain effort and discuss
optimum avenues of approach - Schedule Introductory Seminar
- Conduct follow-on Short Course and/or Focus Study
as interest warrants - Facilitate small group formation and interaction
- Assist with theses selection and research
- Brief the Joint Faculty Education Conference,
Spring 08
10Summary
- The thrust of this effort is to provide a
