Early Life

• Claudius was born in Lugdunum France
• Claudius was born in the year of 10 BC.
• He was born with a limp and he stuttered when he
  talked. Because of this he was kept in the palace
  from public view and was never considered for an
  important position.
• He was also very ugly.

• Parents were Nero Claudius Drusus and Antonia
• Uncle was Tiberius
• Grandfather was Augustus

• Caligula was his nephew
• His grandfather was Marcus Antonius

• Caligula, Claudiuss nephew died
• Rome needed a close relative to rule.
• They found Claudius hiding in the palace.
• Praetorians made him emperor
• Senators were mad

• Claudius was married four times, he ordered the
  execution of his third wife because she lied
• In 48AD he married his niece Agrippina

• Current scholars say that he was sly and ready to
  be emperor

  Britannicus.
• In 54 AD Agrippina poisoned Claudius so Nero
  could rule.
