Security
  • Return and Receipt of Secured Materials
  • Inventory materials within 24 hours
  • Report discrepancies to GEDTS Administrator
  • Material is arranged sequentially when returned
    to GEDTS, tamper evident seals are secured,
    tracking method used i.e. Fed-Ex, USP.
  • All secure white boxes must be returned to GEDTS

Permanent Storage
  • Test materials are stored in a secure fireproof
    safe or file
  • Storage area is not labeled as to contents
  • Permanent storage is not in examination room
  • All keys to storage area are accounted for and in
    possession of examiners only

Interim Storage
  • Only exact number of test booklets needed for
    testing session are to be removed from permanent
    storage (This is determined after examinees are
    seated for test)
  • Interim storage must be available in examination
    room for test booklet storage
  • Test booklets are taken to addendum storage in a
    locking briefcase or strongbox

Inventories
  • The testing center must maintain an inventory log
    (dated and signed)
  • GED test booklets must be inventoried before and
    after each test session and once a month between
    sessions
  • Each required inventory must be initialed by the
    examiner conducting inventory

Staff Development Assignments
  • Examiners/proctors must meet qualifications in
    GED Examiners Manual and (Texas SBOE RULES)
  • Examiners shall attend required training
    conducted by Jurisdictional Administrator
  • Chief Examiner must train all Test Center staff

  • An examiner must be present throughout each
    scheduled testing session
  • Staff assisting with testing shall have no other
    work assignments
  • At a minimum one GED Chief Examiner or Examiner
    and one GED Proctor must be present at each
    administration of GED tests from 1 to 20
    candidates. For each additional group of up to
    20 candidates an additional GED Proctor or GED
    Examiner must be present.

Examination Room
  • Quiet, comfortable and well-lighted
  • Accessible for candidates needing accommodations
  • Must be appropriate for adults
  • Large enough to allow 3-4 feet between candidates

  • A clock must be clearly visible for all
    candidates
  • Testing times must be recorded

Testing Sessions
  • Candidates must present current identification
    each time they test
  • Seating chart must be established
  • Test Surveillance Log must be maintained
  • Staff Assignment Log must be maintained
  • Candidates must not be allowed to approach the
    examiners desk

  • Test directions must be read aloud at each
    testing session
  • Examiners must monitor testing by constantly
    moving about room
  • Tests must be properly timed
  • Candidates must be issued colored/ marked scratch
    paper which is collected and destroyed

Documents
  • Current Policies and Procedures Manual available
  • Contract and addendum (if applicable) must be on
    file at Center
  • Written procedures and Emergency Plan
  • Approved staff documentation on file
  • Inventory and Test Surveillance Logs must be
    maintained for one year

  • Test center has an application and registration
    process
  • Test center maintains student record keeping
    system as directed by State Administrator
  • Test center ensures confidentiality of student
    records

Counseling
  • Examiners must be familiar with all aspects of
    GED Testing
  • Center staff provides opportunity for pre-testing
    (if applicable)
  • Center coordinates with instructional programs in
    pre-testing availability and/or pre-testing
    assistance

  • Center provides information packets for
    candidates about availability of accommodated
    testing
  • Center staff makes appropriate referrals to
    programs that can assist candidates in testing
    preparation, if necessary

Outreach Activities
  • Testing should be scheduled at convenient
    times/dates for adults whenever possible
  • Testing and availability of accommodations in
    testing shall be publicized to reach the
    community.
  • Staff should respond to inquiries in a supportive
    manner to potential candidates

  • Center staff should be knowledgeable of
    post-secondary programs available to GED
    graduates
  • Center staff should make provision to transport
    tests as necessary
  • Center should have marketing plan to increase
    participation in their program

  • Test center staff shall promote the value of the
    GED program to local employers, post-secondary
    education and training programs, and to general
    public
  • Candidates that do not pass should be contacted
    for re-testing availability
  • Center staff should encourage events that
    recognize GED graduates - graduation ceremonies,
    awards, scholarships, etc.
