2Management TC Scope and Objectives
- SCOPE
- Conduct activities that are directed toward
understanding issues and developing solutions to
management problems of interest to the aerospace
and defense industry, and to encourage and
promote improved management methods and
practices. - OBJECTIVES
- To fulfill the AIAA Charter by providing
significantly useful and relevant products,
services, and information on management to the
AIAA and its associated industrial, academic, and
government organizations. - To provide a meaningful environment for
individual and corporate growth and a forum for
committee members to exchange knowledge in the
field of management through networking and
sharing of personal and corporate experiences.

5AIAA TCM Membership Selection Guidelines
- The following describes the guidelines for
membership consideration to the Technical
Committee on Management (TCM) - A formal education in both the technical
(engineering and/or science) and the management
(business administration, management or finance)
fields is desired. - Practical experience in each field is mandatory
with both line and staff experience desired. - Must have at least 10-years experience in
aerospace programs and must currently be in a
position of substantial management
responsibility. - Each prospective member is personally interested
in and developments in the technical and
management fields and has personally contributed
to each in the form of speeches, papers, etc.... - He or she should be an active member of, and have
demonstrated personal interest in, the AIAA
through past or current contributions. - Similar interest demonstrated in other
professional management societies is desirable.
6AIAA TCM Active Membership Guidelines
- The following describes the guidelines for
retaining active membership within the Technical
Committee on Management (TCM) - Active members serve at the discretion of the TCM
committee leadership. - New members serve a three-year term. A two-year
extension may be granted to active members by the
TCM leadership. - Active members must have a sponsoring
organizations support for committee
participation and attendance. Any member missing
more than two consecutive meetings will be asked
to reaffirm this commitment as a criteria for
continuing active member status. - Active members are expected to attend at least
two meetings per calendar year. - Active members are to participate on at least one
subcommittee. - Active members are expected to make both
proactive and constructive contributions to the
operations and activities of the TCM.
7AIAA TCM Alumni Membership Guidelines
- The following describes the guidelines for
retaining alumni membership status within the
Technical Committee on Management (TCM) - The TCM Alumni Subcommittee will be responsible
for maintaining the roster of alumni members who
serve at the discretion of the TCM committee
leadership. - Active alumni are expected to attend at least one
TCM meeting each year. - Unique knowledge or capability not embodied in
active TCM membership. - Holds senior position in industry/government/educa
tion and can provide advisory benefit to TCM and
AIAA.

- What is new
- New Chair and Vice-Chair as of this meeting.
- Two new members are joining us starting this
meeting, Doug Dwoyer and Larry Stephens. - Rich Raiford ,Chairman, is taking alumni status
and Bill Shira, Vice-Chair, is taking membership
status. - Dr. Harris resigned due to increase in job
responsibilities. - Several members have been asked to resigned due
to their lack of participation. - Several opportunities exist in the subcommittee
leadership.

- What is new
- Out of four nominees for the von Braun Award,
Brewster Shaw, VP and GM International Space
Station The Boeing Company, was selected. - Four nominees for the Hap Arnold award.
- Nine nominees for the Undergraduate Student
Design Competition. - Potential change of Global Air and Space meeting
to be coincide with AIAA congressional day.
12A Reflection on Recent AIAA / TCM events
- Challenges
- Develop five projects that were identified in
March. - Produce AA paper for publication by September.
- Select a winner for the Hap Arnold award by
August 22. - Select a winner for the Student Design
Competition by July 25. - Develop paper for the Delta Forum for January 04
by August 15. - Select a new member from the academia.

- Website operations communications tools
- Periodic subcommittee initiatives
15TCM Meeting Objectives
- Provide a forum for communicating key management
issues to the TCM members. - Provide a forum for exchanging ideas to address
management issues. - Maintain a product focus for the committees
customers (TCM members, member sponsors, AIAA,
other committees / societies) through the meeting
agenda topics. - Document a product from our TCM meetings
consistent with the themes. - Provide support to the Engineering Technical
Management group.
16TCM Meeting Operations
- Conduct subcommittee meetings / discussions prior
to the TCM meeting including review of
subcommittee membership rosters and developing
subcommittee action plans. - Committee chairs to prepare concise subcommittee
summaries for presentation at the meeting.
Include action plans, subcommittee special
projects, issues, resources, and recommendations. - Ensure current address/e-mail info is provided to
the operations subcommittee for the web site. - Come prepared to contribute to the group
discussion session.
