2001 Graduate Remark
  • I want HRSA to know that by investing in my
participation in this consumer training they have
afforded me the opportunity to evaluate my
strengths and weaknesses as a consumer leader.
The training provided me the skills to be an
effective trainer and to advocate for my
community by educating others. Thank you for the
    opportunity to participate.

18
2002 Graduate Remark
  • I came to the training after being on staff at
my local Title IV program for three years. I
never new why I didnt quite fit in, as a
consumer I know as much, if not more about the
clients we served than most of the staff. This
training program helped to answer that question,
the trainers nicely called it -- rough around the
edges. I can say after they taught me to stop
talking and to listen, I learned so much and
gained skills and professional etiquette that I
never new I was lacking. Now I feel more a part
of the staff and the staff treats me like a
    professional.

19
2002 Graduate Remark
  • Upon completion of my first of four trainings, I
remember being at a staff meeting in which I
replied to a particular issue, and all of my
colleagues turned to me in disbelief.  They were
surprised that I actually had a voice and was
able to articulate my perspective on the issue.
I was unaware that I had changed after the first
training, but it was quite evident to them that I
was no longer the same timid woman that they were
accustomed to.  I was empowered and didn't even
realize it until I opened my mouth!"

20
2003 Graduate Remarks
  • When I saw the word Corps I thought Marines.
  • And for those of us who thought this was a
vacation, after the first night, we may have
thought we had enlisted in the Marines.
  • Some went AWOL, but for those of us who made it
though, we will forever be changed by the skills,
knowledge and courage the trainers shared with
    us. Thanks ladies.

21
2004 Graduate Remarks
I MADE IT! I Made IT! THIS IS THE FIRST THING I
EVER FINISHED! It wasnt just for me or all
about me, it was all the people I met in my
community while conducting HIV educational
workshops.
22
2005 Graduate Remark
  • I graduated from something! I have never done
it before. Not only are my kids and family proud
of me, but I was proud of me. Thank you AIDS
    Alliance staff!

23
2006 Graduate Remarks
  • When I attended the training, I didnt think
that I could do it, but the trainers helped me.
  • I now work with other Latino families educating
    them about HIV/AIDS.
  • I did it!!

24
2006 Graduate Remark
  • Last year, I missed the application deadline and
I was so upset. Now I realize this was the year
for me. I learned information and skills that I
would have never have received in my local
programs or any school. My classmates will be my
    friends for life.
