education activities and programs and (B)
includes research that - Employs systematic, empirical methods that draw
on observation or experiment - Involves rigorous data analyses that are adequate
to test the stated hypotheses and justify the
general conclusions drawn - Relies on measurements or observational methods
that provide reliable and valid data across
evaluators and observers, across multiple
measurements and observations, and across studies
by the same or different investigators - Is evaluated using experimental or
quasi-experimental designs in which individuals,
entities, programs or activities are assigned to
different conditions and with appropriate
controls to evaluate the effects of the condition
of interest, with a preference for
random-assignment experiments, or other designs
to the extent that those designs contain
within-condition or across-condition controls - Ensures experimental studies are presented in
sufficient detail and clarity to allow for
replication or, at a minimum, offer the

34Research Tells Us
- We can, whenever and wherever we choose,
successfully teach ALL children whose schooling
is of interest to us - We already know more than we need to do that
- Whether or not we do it must finally depend on
how we feel about the fact that we haven't so far
35Teachers Make the Difference
- I have come to a frightening conclusion. I am
the decisive element in the classroom. It is my
personal approach that creates the climate. It is
my daily mood that makes the weather. As a
teacher I possess tremendous power to make a
childs life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool
of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can
humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all
situations it is my response that decides whether
a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated, and a
child humanized or de-humanized.
36Have a Great Year!!!!!!!!
