Summer 2009 Stars Blue Team
New to Swim Team?
  • Parent support is critical
  • Be prepared for highs and lows
  • Encourage your child to have FUN
  • Find one positive thing to praise about every
  • Create a reward system make it a tradition
  • You will be amazed with their progress

Taking Care of your Swimmer
  • Hair, Ears, and skin
  • Swim practice does not count as a bath fresh
    water rinse w/ soap after practice
  • Dry ears after practice try Swim Ear
  • Sunscreen liberally 30 min. b4 practice, or
    swim shirt
  • Nutrition 1 hour before and immediately after
    practice choose wisely
  • For kids, I like Cliff Z bars Pria bars, fresh
    fruit, peanut butter sand.

Swim Meets 101
  • Heats, lanes, seeding ……
  • Ready bench
  • Relays
  • DQs
  • Exposure to a variety of events
  • Bring shade, energy food, fluids, AND sunscreen!

Head Coach Lisa Denison
  • Native Texan, Austin resident for 15 years just
    moved back to TX after 5 years away in New Mexico
  • Lifetime competitive swimmer state level
    age-group year round swimmer, college swimming
    scholarship candidate, current competitive
    masters swimmer triathlete
  • Certified Triathlon Coach, group fitness
    instructor, and indoor cycling instructor, and
    past personal trainer
  • Owns a coaching business for beginner
    experienced triathletes, youth and masters swim
  • Married with 3 girls (ages 8, 6, and 5 Blue
    Stars too!)
  • THRILLED and honored to be the new Blue Team
    Shooting Stars Head Coach

Coaching Philosophy
  • ALL things should build UP the spirit of the
    child they believe what they are told
  • 1 swimmers MUST have FUN!
  • 2 swimmers MUST learn to swim correctly, as
    early as possible technique, technique,
  • Coaches MUST do some coaching IN the water
  • Yelling doesnt work clear rules do

Swim Ability Requirements
  • Swimmers must be able to swim the length of the
    pool without stopping within 2 weeks of the
    beginning of practice
  • Stroke does not have to be perfect just in
    tact, not too vertical, head mostly tucked
  • Swimmers must be willing to come to the pool from
    the gate without parents
  • Private lessons are available from ALL Blue Team
    coaches volunt. contact info. coming
  • Steiner Ranch HOA offers swimming lessons

A Few Rules Guidelines
  • Swimmers need to be on time for practice and
  • Attendance at practice and meets is important
  • Let the coaches coach!
  • Issues requiring attention will be handled
    privately not in front of your child
  • No parents on deck at practices
  • Body mark your child, or we will …… indefinitely
    (under age 10)
  • First name in all CAPS, vertically down RIGHT arm
  • Please have your swimmer go to the bathroom RIGHT
    before practice

  • Team Suit !! A must!
  • Swim Cap especially girls (or hair well
  • Properly fitted goggles
  • Fitted Fins

  • 6 Under 515 pm Land drills, swim 530 615
  • 7-8 615 pm Land drills, swim 630 730
  • 9 Up 730 pm Land drills, swim 745
    845 pm

  • May 15 Blue/Red Season Kick Off Party
  • June 8 First day of practice (Monday)
  • June 16 Time trial meet (during practice)
  • June 20 or 27 Possible Saturday Morning Meet

    (with Red Team visiting circuit team)
  • July 1 Possible Evening Meet

    (with Brushy Creek, maybe 1-2 more
    small teams)
  • July 9 Meet Day - Intrasquad
  • July 13 Blue/Red End of Season Celebration
