DECOMMISSIONING ENVIRONMENTAL REMEDIATION
CENTRENorth Highland College.
  • The DERC Mission Statement objectives are-
  • To assist with the UHI Millennium Institute case
for full University status by 2006/7.
  • To develop innovative, world-class research
programmes in science, technology and engineering
in the fields of nuclear decommissioning and
environmental remediation (for both nuclear and
for other industries) to the benefit of UK
    commerce and environments.
  • DERC will work with leaders in the sector, to
    establish innovative design solutions appropriate
to these new challenges for nuclear and
    industrial site decommissioning. Contributing to
the international need for safe, environmentally
acceptable end-points for nuclear and other
    industries sites, will enhance DERCs
    international reputation.
  • To develop CPD courses for UKAEA, their
    contractors, consultants and other industry
staff, fit for the purpose of site
    decommissioning and remediation.
  • To supervise and direct postgraduate training and
research in the areas of nuclear decommissioning,
    environmental assessment, and post-closure safety
case development for the benefit of both the
    Scottish and the wider environment.
