  • Double Glazing
  • For South Façade light transmittence of 0.6 or
    less or 1m overhang
  • Low E coating to reduce heat loss
  • Top and bottom opening lights preferable
    (minimum 125mm)
  • Trickle vent to frame
  • High performance seals

Single Sided Ventilation

Heat Pumps
  • Uses buried pipe loops to reject heat - no visual
    impact
  • Provides cooling water for ICT rooms
  • Medium capital cost
  • Very low running rosts
  • No distribution of Chilled Water
  • No roof space required - avoids problems with
    water tank
  • Circuit can also be used for heating (heat pump)
  • Gives flexibility to spaces for underfloor
    heating

  • A biomass boiler uses waste material or
renewable sources e.g. refuse, wood, crops etc to
    generate useful heat
  • Recommendation for a 100 kW heat-only system to
be developed to meet the year round base load for
    the entire site
  • Any of three options for Biomass fuel are
    viable, namely
  • Short Rotation Coppice (SRC)
  • Miscanthus
  • Woodfuel
  • Woodchip fuel source from off-cuts from the
    forestry commission
  • 100kW biomass boiler 0.35GWh of carbon free
energy per year for the John Wheatley College
